The ZELPO Aréna is a football stadium in the Slovak municipality of Podbrezová , which lies at the foot of the Slovak Ore Mountains and the Low Tatras . The football club FO ŽP ŠPORT Podbrezová , which was promoted to the first-class Fortuna league in the 2014/15 season , welcomes its opponents to the games here. Both the stadium and the club are named after the tubular steel manufacturer Železiarne Podbrezová ( German Ironworks Podbrezová ). Before the renaming, the sports facility was known as Štadión Kolkáreň and Štadión ŽP ŠPORT (Štadión Železiarní Podbrezová ŠPORT).
history
It took seven years to build the stadium. On August 1, 1959, the plant was put into operation. For the top division, the stadium was renovated from 2014 to 2015. The money for the work comes from a funding project of the Slovenský futbalový zväz (SFZ) national football association . The Slovak government is contributing a total of 45 million euros to the construction and renovation of 21 football stadiums in the country over ten years. The stadium will benefit from this with 750,000 euros.
The sum was used, among other things, for the construction of the roof of the main stand. Since the main tier is built directly on a mountain and the playing field turf received too little sunlight due to the old construction and the position, the new roof came up with a solution to the problem. The covering roof parts on a steel structure can be moved forwards and backwards. The guest block next to the main stand was renewed and equipped with seats. A fast internet connection was installed for the reporting journalists. In the future, the Štadión ŽP ŠPORT is to be supplemented with a floodlight system and the playing field with turf heating .
On August 22, 2015, the converted stadium was inaugurated with the Fortuna league game between FO ŽP ŠPORT Podbrezová and TJ Spartak Myjava (1: 2). With the opening, the sports facility was renamed ZELPO Aréna .
