Walter Siebel (born October 5, 1938 in Bonn ) is a German sociologist and university professor .

Life

Siebel attended the Humboldt-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf until his Abitur in 1958 and then studied mechanical engineering , economics and sociology at the RWTH Aachen , the University of Cologne , the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the New York University and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt Main . In 1968 he received his diploma in sociology.

From 1969 to 1971 he was an assistant to Manfred Teschner at the Institute for Sociology at the Technical University of Darmstadt , then a research assistant at the Institute for Housing and Environment in Darmstadt. In 1974 he received his doctorate from the Technical University of Darmstadt. Siebel has been Professor of Sociology at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg since 1975 , with a focus on urban and regional research.

He has been a member of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning since 1990 and a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development since 2003 . Siebel was awarded the Schader Prize in 2003.
