Walter Sulzbach

Walter Sulzbach (born February 21, 1889 in Frankfurt am Main ; died April 17, 1969 in Kilchberg near Zurich ) was a German sociologist who devoted his research to political sociology in particular .

Life

Walter Sulzbach was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1889 as the son of Karl Sulzbach , co-owner of the Sulzbach Brothers banking house. Walter, who first joined his father's bank in 1922, studied economics , history and law in Grenoble , Munich , Berlin and Freiburg , where he also received his doctorate in 1911 . In 1914 he was captured by the British on a study trip through Africa and was interned until 1920. After his habilitation in 1921, he became a private lecturer at the University of Frankfurt am Main , where he held a non-civil servant professorship for sociology from 1930 until his dismissal in 1933. In 1937 he emigrated to the USA , where he taught from 1937 to 1945 as a professor of sociology at a college in Claremont (California) . Sulzbach returned in 1956 to his hometown Frankfurt am Main, at whose university he took over a full professor of sociology and political science. Since 1960 he lived in Switzerland .
