Walter W. Weber

Walter W. Weber (born March 21, 1948 in Augsburg ; † May 23, 2014 ) was a German journalist .

biography

After a traineeship at the Trierische Landeszeitung , Weber moved to Axel Springer-Verlag in 1969 and worked for almost five years as a reporter and news editor for the Bildzeitung and Bild am Sonntag in Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg . In December 1973 he went to the Saarbrücker Zeitung as editor for domestic politics , where he took over the position of deputy head of the politics department four years later. In 1979 he became head of politics and current affairs, and in 1989 he was deputy editor-in-chief. At the beginning of 1994 Weber switched to Trierischer Volksfreund as editor-in-chief . As the first German regional newspaper, he switched to the American reporter / editor system as early as 2000 by abolishing the departments and introducing central production. A few years later, this made it possible to switch to a multimedia editorial office. On October 1, 2009 Weber retired. His successor is Isabell Funk , who completed her traineeship at Saarbrücker Zeitung in 1979.

Weber was married and the father of two grown children. He died three months after his wife.
