Christoph Sonnleithner (born May 28, 1734 in Szeged , Hungary , † December 25, 1786 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and composer .

Christoph Sonnleithner was married to Anna Maria Doppler. The couple had ten children:

  1. Eleonore Sonnleithner (1762–1819), wife of the Knight of Paumgartten
  2. Joseph Sonnleithner (1766–1835), librettist, theater director and archivist
  3. Anna Sonnleithner (1767–1819), wife of Wenzel Grillparzer, mother of the writer Franz Grillparzer
  4. Franziska Sonnleithner (1768–1857), wife of Johann Sigmund Rizy, mother of the lawyer Theobald von Rizy
  5. Franz Xaver Sonnleithner (1769–1832), civil servant and writer
  6. Ignaz Sonnleithner (1770–1831), lawyer and author, husband of Anna Putz, father of the lawyer Leopold von Sonnleithner

Life

Sonnleithner studied at the University of Vienna Law and graduated with doctorate from. Later he got a job as court court attorney in the service of the Princely Esterházy Domain Administration; his employer was Prince Paul II Anton Esterházy de Galantha .

Sonnleithner was appointed dean of the law faculty at the University of Vienna and thus also held the office of court judge of the Schottenstift .

As a composer, Sonnleithner was in contact with Joseph Haydn . He composed 36 string quartets ( dedicated to Joseph II ), several symphonies and various church music.
