Leopold Andreas Ignaz Sonnleithner , from 1828 Leopold Edler von Sonnleithner (born November 15, 1797 in Vienna ; †  March 3, 1873 ibid) was an Austrian lawyer and a well-known personality on the Viennese music scene.

Leopold von Sonnleithner was a grandson of the composer Christoph Sonnleithner and son of Ignaz von Sonnleithner . His father was raised to the Austrian nobility on April 20, 1828 in Vienna with a diploma from June 14, 1828 ; with him also his son Leopold.

On May 6, 1828, he married the wholesaler daughter Louise Augusta Gosmar, who was born in Hamburg (August 11, 1803 - June 7, 1850).

Life

Sonnleithner, who received his doctorate in law on May 4, 1819, was court attorney , court judge of the Schottenstift , director and lawyer of the "Österreichische Sparcasse".

As a private citizen, like his father, he was an active member of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna and a committed music collector. He was a personal friend and patron of the Viennese composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert and his cousin, the playwright Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872). Schubert ( D 921) and Grillparzer (text) dedicated their serenade “ Hesitatingly quiet ” to his wife Louise.

Sonnleithner was buried in 1873 in the Matzleinsdorf cemetery in the 5th district of Margareten in Vienna (today the cemetery is in the 10th district of Favoriten ).

His estate as a music collector is now in the archive of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna.
