Walter Wegmüller
Walter Wegmüller (born February 25, 1937 in Bern ; † March 26, 2020 there ) was a Swiss - Yenish artist.
Life
As the child of a Yenish mother, Wegmüller grew up as a contract child in the canton of Bern. After training in Basel, Bern, Paris and London, he began his artistic career in Bern. In Bern he worked a. a. with Sergius Golowin and was co-organizer of the art festival of lousy birds in 1969 . Although he was able to exhibit at the Tokyo Biennale as early as 1961, he gained widespread international attention , especially from 1974 with the publication of his Gypsy tarot . In Basel he was a co-founder of the artist group Farnsburggruppe . In addition to painting and sculptural work, Walter Wegmüller always dealt with the entire spectrum of art, was also involved in several films (including with J. J. Wittmer) and worked on joint works and exhibitions with Claude Sandoz and HR Giger. In 1972/73 he also made a foray into music: Wegmüller took part in the recordings for the Ash Ra Tempel LP "Seven Up" with Timothy Leary , Sergius Golowin , Brian Barrit and released the LP TAROT , cosmic music with Klaus Schulze , Walter Westrupp , etc. 1996 appeared Swatch -Watch Oracolo , which was designed by Walter Wegmüller.
In the 1970s he was a co-founder, activist and temporarily president of the Radgenossenschaft der Landstrasse , umbrella organization of the Swiss Yeniche and Roma. In 2007 he took part in the meeting of Yenish cultural workers of the schäft qwant association . Wegmüller himself was a child from the “ Kinder der Landstrasse ” campaign, taken from the family as “a Rome child from the Kalderash tribe”.
