Walter Weideli (born July 16, 1927 in Geneva ) is a Swiss writer and translator .

Life

Walter Weideli studied literature at the University of Geneva . He has distinguished himself as a playwright and essayist, but especially as a translator of German-language literature - especially by Elias Canetti and Friedrich Dürrenmatt , but also by Kurt Guggenheim , Ludwig Hohl , Pavel Kohout , Herbert Meier and Robert Walser - and as a mediator between the cultures of German-speaking Switzerland and the French-speaking Switzerland made a name.

He was one of the founding members of the Olten group . Weideli received the Prix ​​lémanique de la traduction in 1985 .
