Walter from Lucadou

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter von Lucadou (born October 24, 1945 in Löffingen ) is a German psychologist , physicist and parapsychologist .

Life

Von Lucadou studied physics and psychology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and at the Free University of Berlin . After graduating in physics, he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. and at the FU Berlin for Dr. phil. PhD. From 1977 to 1978, von Lucadou worked as a physicist at the Kiepenheuer Institute for Solar Physics in Freiburg. From 1985 to 1987 he was visiting professor at the Parapsychological Laboratory of the University of Utrecht .

Influenced by Hans Driesch's writing Parapsychology - The Science of Occult Phenomena and his teacher Hans Bender , he initiated a research project that was carried out from September 1979 to April 1985 at the Chair of Psychology and Frontier Areas of Psychology at the Psychological Institute of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1986 he received his doctorate in psychology from the Free University of Berlin. In 1989 Lucadou founded the parapsychological counseling center of the Scientific Society for the Promotion of Parapsychology in Freiburg, which he has headed ever since.

Research areas

Walter von Lucadou is considered one of the leading researchers in the field of parapsychology worldwide . He is one of the editors of various specialist journals and also acted as a scientific advisor for the six-part ARD documentary Dimension PSI , which was broadcast in 2003. His main areas of study are systems theory and border areas of psychology.

Theses on parapsychology

Walter von Lucadou takes an independent, unorthodox approach to the explanation of paranormal phenomena, which combines psychological and physical explanatory models. While classical parapsychology has so far assumed that in events such as clairvoyance or telepathy, information would be transmitted as a signal, albeit in an unknown form, and that a previously unknown force would ultimately act in psychokinesis , Lucadou takes the view that macroscopic processes take place stand in analogy to quantum mechanical entanglement , but are not identical with it. Rather, they would occur with sufficiently complex integration (embodiment) of people into their environment. For the occurrence of such entanglements, he falls back on a concept ( generalized quantum mechanics or weak quantum mechanics ) by Hartmann Römer , according to which these result from the existence of non-interchangeable observations, which is often the case in psychology, for example. According to Lucadou, however, parapsychological phenomena should not be operationalizable, that is, they should not be purposeful and usable at will, but "happened" situationally. The NT axiom (NT for non transmission ) applies : Entanglement correlations cannot be used for the transmission of signals or controllable causal influences. According to Lucadou, this is also related to the fact that they are difficult to observe directly from outsiders, that the effects weaken with repetition or extension of the observations, a reciprocity effect (the stronger the expression, the more difficult to reproduce) and, in general, their elusive character with a tendency to change To withdraw observation or reappear at an unexpected point (displacement effect). However, critics see these as protective claims in order to evade fundamental criteria such as reproducibility or falsifiability.

Lucadou also called his approach the model of pragmatic information (MPI, Lucadou, Kornwachs 1982). This describes that, according to Lucadou, psychokinesis and other paranormal phenomena are not about the action of unknown forces, but about a non-local correlation in psycho-physical systems, generated as a pattern by the organizationally closed system.

A forerunner of this explanatory approach can already be found in the Jung-Paulischen synchronicity , which also assumes an acausal connection in paranormal events, but does not see the cause in analogy to quantum physical processes, but in a context created by the meaning or the meaning or the symbolism .

According to Lucadou, paranormal experiences (such as true dreams or spooky phenomena ) typically do not occur in mentally unstable or sick people. He names five typical characteristics of affected people:

  • Dissociativity, a characteristic of often creative people, which can be expressed as the presence of an inner dialogue partner.
  • Externalization, tendency not to process unpleasant things inwardly, but to push them away.
  • They have problems that they are not aware of, for example (but not always) due to repression.
  • The phenomenon must be observable and the observation is part of the phenomenon.
  • Robustness. They are often very healthy mentally and physically and do not react psychosomatically to problems.
