Walter von Vigier
Walter Vigier von Steinbrugg (born February 7, 1851 in Solothurn , † August 1, 1910 in Subingen ) was a Swiss portrait , genre and landscape painter .
Life
Walter Vigier was the son of the Government and Council of States Joseph Wilhelm Viktor Vigier . He began studying painting from 1870 to 1871 in Neuchâtel NE with Auguste Bachelin (1830–1890), continued his studies from May 12, 1871 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich , a. a. Anatomy with the sculptor Christoph Roth. He then spent three years from 1873 in Paris with Léon Bonnat . He went on a study trip to Italy and settled in Solothurn.
Vigier married Fanny Zschokke in 1877, daughter of the politician Olivier Zschokke . From 1882 to 1884 he was president of the Swiss Art Association . He then stayed in Munich for several years, then spent the last years of his life in Subingen.
In addition to portraits and landscapes, Vigier created genre and history pictures with themes from Swiss history. He also illustrated works by Jeremias Gotthelf and Heinrich Zschokke .
