Waltham Cross is the most southeastern town in Hertfordshire , England . The place is about 20 km east of the City of London directly on the M 25 motorway . Waltham Cross has been part of the Borough of Broxbourne since 1974 .

history

The place got the name part "Cross" through the erection of an Eleanor Cross , which was donated by King Edward I in memory of his late wife Eleanor of Castile .

The poet Anthony Trollope lived in Waltham Cross between 1859 and 1871 and wrote a number of his books here. The Trollope house was demolished in 1936. Today there is a pub on the site of the house.

Olympic Games 2012

The Lee Valley White Water Center was built near the Waltham Town Lock on the River Lea . Here were during the 2012 Olympic Games competitions in canoe slalom held.
