Walther Neuhoff (born February 12, 1891 , † January 20, 1971 in Rellingen ) was a German mycologist . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Neuhoff ".

Neuhoff attended the seminar in Löbau and studied in Berlin and Königsberg, where he worked as a primary school teacher from 1911. After 1945 Neuhoff lived in Rellingen. His wife Ella Neuhoff was a well-known illustrator and has contributed numerous illustrations to Neuhoff's work.

In addition to his job, Neuhoff dealt with the flora of East Prussia . Among other things, he completed “Abromeits Flora of East and West Prussia” . He was introduced to mycology by Eugen Gramberg, his future father-in-law, and wrote a dissertation with which he received his doctorate at the University of Königsberg. The topic of the work was "Cytology and systematic position of the Auriculariaceen and Tremellaceae". In 1936 he brought out a processing of Sweden's jelly mushrooms.

This was followed in 1933 by an "Overview of the Hymenomycetes of East Prussia". Neuhoff's research then concentrated on the genus Lactarius , which he worked on for the series "Die Pilze Mitteleuropas" (1937–1943). In 1956 Neuhoff published his great work on milk lumps, which is an important basis for Lactarius research to this day.

Another group of mushrooms that Neuhoff dealt with are the knights . He has also published several works on the ecology and sociology of mushrooms, for example on the mushroom vegetation of the Zehlau-Hochmoor, one of the first total nature reserves in East Prussia (1922), the Posen-West Prussia border region (1928) and the Holstein cattle pastures (1949 to 1950 ).
