Walther Wolf

Walther Wolf (born November 24, 1900 in Hildesheim , † January 11, 1973 in Hamburg ) was a German Egyptologist and professor at the Universities of Leipzig and Münster .

Life

Walter Wolf studied at the universities of Heidelberg , Göttingen and Berlin . During his studies he became a member of the AMV Stauffia Heidelberg (in the Sondershäuser Association ). From 1922 he was employed as a research assistant at the Egyptian Museum Berlin . In 1923 he received his doctorate in Heidelberg and stayed in Cairo in 1926 at the German Institute for Egyptian Antiquity .

In 1928 he became a research assistant in Leipzig. In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler . In 1934, when Georg Steindorff retired, Wolf was appointed associate professor. In 1939 he was appointed full professor and drafted into military service in the same year. In 1946 he did not return to Leipzig from captivity. Instead he became a visiting professor in Münster in 1949, where he set up an Egyptological seminar. There he was a full professor from 1959 to 1969.

From 1935 to 1939, Walther Wolf published the Leipzig Egyptological Studies , a series of publications for smaller monographs.
