Wang Enmao ( Chinese  王恩茂 , Pinyin Wáng Ēnmào , born May 19, 1912 in Yongxin , Jiangxi Province , Republic of China , † April 12, 2001 in Beijing ) was a Chinese politician .

biography

Wang Enmao became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1930 and was a participant in the Long March of the Red Army from 1934 to 1936, the 12,000-kilometer march from Jiangxi to flee the National Army under the orders of Chiang Kai-shek . After his arrival in Shanxi , which had already been abandoned by Mao Zedong's troops , he fought the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II . After the defeat of Japan , he was again in command of combat operations against the National Army in the final stages of the Chinese Civil War .

After the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949, he took on leading positions in the party and military leadership in the restless and predominantly Muslim region of Xinjiang, as well as in Jilin Province and the Shenyang military region . Between 1952 and 1967 he was First Secretary of the Communist Party in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region . In 1956 he was also a candidate for the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), of which he was a member until 1966.

Like many veteran party officials, he was persecuted during the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976 when the Red Guard, influenced by Mao Zedong, sparked a rebellion against the established party bureaucracy. He was then governor of Jilin Province from 1977 to 1980 , before he was again First Secretary of the CP in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang from 1981 to 1985. Between 1977 and 1987 he was also a member of the Central Committee of China.

Most recently, from 1986 to 1993, he was Deputy Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese People (CPPCC) , an advisory body in the state apparatus of the People's Republic of China.
