The Wangenitzbach is a brook in the municipality of Mörtschach ( Spittal an der Drau district , Carinthia ). The brook has its source at Wangenitzsee and flows into the Möll between Unterburgstall and Stampfen .

Course and character

The Wangenitzbach rises as an outflow of the Wangenitzsee in the southern Schober group near the border with East Tyrol . It flows through the Wangenitztal, which slopes from west to east and was shaped into a trough valley by an Ice Age glacier. The Wangenitzbach initially runs over scree to the Ladinigalm, passes the Pußnigalm and takes on the Prititschbach on the right. Shortly thereafter, the Steinbach flows on the right-hand side and drains the Steinsee. As a result, the Wangenitzbach flows through the alpine pastures of the Wangenitzalm and then passes densely wooded area and wooded gorges up to the mouth. After entering the Mölltal , the Wangenitzbach flows into the Möll south of Unterburgstall or north of Stampfen.

The catchment area of the Wangenitzbach consists of old crystalline with mica schist , amphibolite , amphibolite gneiss , eclogite and peridotite , with the Wangenitzbach flowing through montane, subalpine and alpine vegetation levels. Due to the multiple steep steps, the stream has an average gradient of 23%. The stream flows in the middle course through flat, widened meander stretches with moor vegetation, in the lower course there is a pronounced alluvial forest belt. The stream shows no anthropogenic impairment.
