||
The Wannon River is a river in the southwest of the Australian state of Victoria .
geography
The river has its source on the eastern slopes of Mount Frederick in the Grampians and initially flows south. At Dunkeld at the southern end of the Grampians National Park it turns its course to the west and flows into the Glenelg River at Casterdon .
On its way it flows through the towns of Cavendish, Wannon, Hamilton, Coleraine and Penshurst.
About 20 kilometers west of Hamilton , the Wannon River falls over two waterfalls, the Wannon Falls and the Nigretta Falls. Both are tourist attractions and are also provided with appropriate facilities. The impressionist painter Louis Buvelot painted in the 1880s many scenes around these waterfalls.
