Upper course

The Wapienica is a left tributary of the Iłownica , a tributary of the Vistula of 21 kilometers in length. The river rises on the slopes of the Błatnia in the Silesian Beskids in Bielsko-Biała and flows into the Iłownica in Czechowice-Dziedzice . In the upper reaches it has the character of a mountain river and is dammed into the Jezioro Wielka Łąka reservoir. In addition to the Silesian Beskids, it flows through the Silesian foothills and the Auschwitz basin . Its largest tributary is the Żydowski Potok .

The river is popular with fishing enthusiasts. Trout and bullhead are common. In the upper reaches its water has the first quality class.
