Place view

geography

The place is on the brook Wapienka in the Lower Beskids , in the Magura National Park , in the so-called Lemkenland . The neighboring towns are Męcina Wielka in the west, Rozdzielen in the north, Bednarka in the east, and Bodaki in the south.

history

The place was re-founded in 1546 under Wallachian law by Michał, a son of Schulz in Męcina.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Wapienne became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). In 1890 the village had 334 inhabitants, mostly Ukrainian Greek Catholic Lemkos .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Wapienne came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . After the Second World War, the Lemken were expelled.

From 1975 to 1998 Wapienne was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .

Soldiers of the Grande Armée cured themselves there as early as 1810 to 1812, but it was not until 1986 that the place received the status of a health resort. With around 150 inhabitants, it is one of the smallest in Poland.
