The Varyag ( Russian Варяг , until 1996 Tscherwona Ukraina ) is a Russian guided missile cruiser of the Slava class .

The ship was launched in 1983 and was assigned to the Pacific Fleet of the Soviet Navy .

Calls

The Varyag was assigned to the Russian fleet, which cruises in the Mediterranean, in the fourth quarter of 2013. Together with the flagship of the fleet, the battle cruiser Pyotr Veliki , and some auxiliary ships, she is supposed to protect Russian interests there. The ship was the first warship in the Russian Navy since 1992 to visit the port of Alexandria on November 11, 2013 for a six-day stay.

Before the G20 summit in Brisbane in 2014, a fleet of four ships led by the “Varyag” and with the destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov flew the flag off the coast of Australia in November 2014.
