Warpaint is an experimental American rock band from Los Angeles , California .

history

Warpaint was founded in 2004. The band performed in the Los Angeles , California area for three years, writing songs that were later released.

Exquisite Corpse (2007-2009)

The band began recording their first EP "Exquisite Corpse" in December 2007 with producer Jacob Bercovici. The sessions lasted over two months. "Exquisite Corpse" was released in 2008 and reached number 1 on the "Los Angeles Amoeba Records local artist" charts, whereupon the EP was re-released in 2009. The success of "Exquisite Corpse" brought the band support appearances at concerts by Yeasayer , Vampire Weekend and The XX . The EP was mixed and mastered by musician John Frusciante . Josh Klinghoffer played drums and guitar on individual tracks of the EP in 2007 and was also the band's drummer for a few months in 2009 before he left the band and was replaced by drummer Stella Mozgawa . Shortly thereafter, Warpaint received a record deal with Rough Trade Records.

The Fool ( 2009-2011 )

The first long player The Fool was released on October 25, 2010. From Musikexpress was The Fool as a plate of November excellent. The British New Musical Express dedicated the title The new queens of the underground to Warpaint on a magazine cover . They were nominated for Sound of 2011 by the BBC .

The band toured the US and Europe in spring / summer 2011 to promote the record. They also played at various festivals such as Summer Sundae, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Rock Werchter and Electric Picnic.

Warpaint ( 2014-2015 )

On January 17, 2014, the second long player, named after the band name, was released and was promoted by the band on tour until summer 2015. An excerpt from the first single from the record "Love is to Die" was used in a commercial in September 2013 by the "Calvin Klein" brand. The single was released as a release on October 28, 2013.

Heads Up (since 2016)

On August 1, 2016, the band released the single "New Song" and announced the release of the third long player "Heads Up". This was released on September 23, 2016, while the band was on tour with Depeche Mode as a special guest on their Global Spirit Tour until the end of October. In May 2018 the band played some concerts in Asia together with musician Harry Styles.

style

Musically, Warpaint offer post-punk with post-rock influences and are sometimes reminiscent of the early Cocteau Twins .
