Warren Errol Truss , AC (born October 8, 1948 in Kingaroy ) is an Australian politician and was chairman of the National Party in Parliament from 2007 to 2016 . He sat for the National Party in the Australian House of Representatives from March 1990 to May 2016 .

Life

Before going into politics, he worked as a farmer. Between 1976 and 1990 he was an advisor to the Shire of Kingaroy , a former Local Government Area . Truss was a member of the opposition's shadow cabinet between 1994 and 1996 and deputy chairman of parliament between 1997 and 1998. He was consumer protection minister from 1997 to 1998 and social security minister from 1998 to 1999. From 1999 to 2005 he was Minister of Agriculture.

After a successful parliamentary election in Australia on September 7, 2013, Truss was appointed Australian Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development on September 18, 2013.

He resigned from all positions on February 11, 2016.
