Charles Washington Misick , OBE (born March 13, 1950 in Bottle Creek, North Caicos ) is a politician of the Progressive National Party (PNP) of the Turks and Caicos Islands , who was Chief Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands between 1991 and 1995 .

Life

Misick graduated from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a degree in business administration and accounting, and later courses in development and conflict resolution . He was an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers as well as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Prestigious Group - Real Estate Sales and Development .

In 1991 Misick succeeded Robert Hall as leader of the Progressive National Party (PNP) and won the House of Assembly elections with it . He then succeeded Oswald Skippings of the People's Democratic Movement (PDM) as Chief Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands . In the elections on January 31, 1995, his PNP suffered a significant defeat and only got four of the 13 seats in parliament, whereupon Derek Taylor of the PDM on February 3, 1995 was the new Chief Minister. He then initially remained opposition leader before his younger brother Michael Misick took over this position in 2002.

In the 2012 elections, Misick, who was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), was re-elected to the House of Assembly and took over as Minister of Finance, Investment and Trade in Prime Minister Rufus Ewing's government . In the 2016 elections, however, the PNP suffered a defeat against the PDM, which won ten of the 15 seats and was able to appoint a new prime minister in Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson . Thereupon Ewing resigned his office as leader of the PNP and Misick as its successor on December 20, 2016 also became opposition leader again.
