Waso Abashidze ( Georgian ვასო აბაშიძე ), full name Vasily Alexeyevich Abashidze ( Georgian ვასილ ალექსის ძე აბაშიძე ; born November 22 jul. / 4. December  1854 greg. In Dusheti ;. D 9. October 1926 in Tbilisi ) was a Georgian theater actor . He is considered a founder of the realism movement in Georgian theater.

Life

Abashidze began to perform in amateur pieces in 1874 . In 1879 he joined the national theater company in Tbilisi. Abschidze was an excellent character and comedy actor and famous for his variety roles. He played Karapet and Sarkis Bogdanytsch in George Eristawis The Miser and The process , Geurk in Zurab Antonov eclipse in Georgia , Avetik in Zagarelis are now other times , Simsimow in Sundukjans Pepo , Famussow in Griboedov Woe to the mind , Chlestakow and Gorodnitschi in Gogol's The Government Inspector , Mursawezki in Ostrowski's Wolves and Sheep and Scapin in Molière's Scapins Pranks . Abashidze wrote a few pieces himself. He was also the artistic director , founder and editor of Georgia's first theater magazine Teatri (1885).

The State Drama and Music Theater in Tbilisi was named after him. His grave is in the Pantheon in Tbilisi.
