Jägersburg waterworks. Seat of the water procurement association

The water procurement association Riedgruppe Ost is a service provider for the local and regional drinking water supply located in the Hessian Ried with its headquarters in Einhausen . As a water and soil association, it has the legal form of a corporation under public law .

history

The Wasserbeschaffungsverband (WBV) was founded on December 17, 1957 by the municipality of Einhausen, the city of Lorsch , and the then still independent municipalities of Fehlheim , Schwanheim (both now districts of Bensheim ) and Rodau (today a district of Zwingenberg ).

On the Feuersteinberg in the Lorsch district, the association's first waterworks went into operation in 1960, serving exclusively to supply the municipalities of the time. This was followed in 1968 by the larger Jägersburg waterworks in the Jägersburger Wald in the Einhauser area, which from the beginning was also designed to deliver excess water to other customers. Since then, the headquarters of the association has also been located there.

The current members are the cities of Lorsch (with 33.5% of the voting rights), Bensheim (13.5%) and Zwingenberg (3%), the municipality of Einhausen (26%) and the district of Bergstrasse (24%). Lorsch and Einhausen, on whose ground the two waterworks of the association stand, together have more than 50% of the votes.

task

The main task is to supply the member communities with drinking water and to ensure that the water will continue to be available in sufficient quantity and quality in the future.

The communities of Biblis and Groß-Rohrheim and the city of Heppenheim , all of which are not members of the association, also obtain drinking water from him.

In addition, the water procurement association delivers large quantities of drinking water to Hessenwasser GmbH for supraregional consumers in the Rhine-Main conurbation .

In addition to the pure supply of water, services in the maintenance and construction of the local network lines of the association communities are also offered.

Further information

In the past few years, the WBV has hit the headlines several times because various parties have called for changes to the structure of the association and the majority in the association assembly. The city of Bensheim wanted to increase its share of the vote and then leave it to the supply company GGEW , a competitor of the WBV in the water business. The association assembly rejected this request, however, a lawsuit by the city of Bensheim and the GGEW against it was rejected.

The city of Heppenheim tried to force membership in the WBV by pointing out that it was one of the largest customers. This was also rejected by the association assembly, and a lawsuit by the city of Heppenheim was also rejected.
