The Lipno II hydropower plant is located on the Vltava River on the outskirts of Vyšší Brod in the Czech Republic and is part of the Vltava Cascade .
The real purpose of the dam is the irregular water discharge the storage power plant Lipno I am upriver Moldaustausee to buffer and achieve a more even flow of Vltava. From the underground power station Lipno I water flows through two shafts and occurs on the western shore of Lake Lipno II to light again ⊙ . The actual course of the Vltava between the two power plants suffered from a lack of water for years. Since 1996 the 9 km long section has been supplied with a minimum water volume of 1.5 m³ / s.
The Lipno II dam is 224 m long, 11.5 m high and lies at a river kilometer 319.108. Here, too, it is partly an earth embankment and partly a gravity dam. The reservoir has an area of about 12.4 ha, a volume of 1.6 million m³ and is at a height of 558 m nm. The power plant has a Kaplan turbine and delivers an output of 1.5 MW. Not far from today's power plant, there was already a power plant from 1902 to the 1950s, albeit without a dam.
The Rybník – Lipno nad Vltavou railway line runs along the north-east bank, and the Vyšší Brod klášter station is located directly below the dam.
