Oberroßbach is a district of Haiger in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse .
geography
Oberroßbach is eight kilometers northeast of Haiger at the confluence of the Roßbach and Rombach rivers. State road 3044 runs through the village .
history
The village was first mentioned in a document in 1355. In 1594 the first school was built, and in 1768 today's church was added.
Roßbach possibly comes from Celtic times. In older documents the place is also called Raspe or Rospe and is still called that in the local dialect.
From the 16th to the 19th century, lead, copper and silver were mined in the Isabelle mine east of the town. These ores, as well as cobalt, were extracted by the Goldbach mine west of the town towards the end of the 18th century.
Territorial reform
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Oberroßbach and Niederroßbach voluntarily merged on October 1, 1971 to form the municipality of Roßbachtal , which was incorporated into the city of Haiger on January 1, 1977 by state law . Niederroßbach and Oberroßbach became districts of Haiger. Local districts were not formed. In the same year, the previously independent Dill district , to which Oberroßbach had belonged since 1866, was merged into the newly formed Lahn-Dill district.
