Weidelbach is a district of the city of Haiger in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse .

geography

Weidelbach is located on the eastern edge of the Westerwald in the triangle of Hesse , North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate . Immediately to the east of the village lies the 560  m high Eibertshain, to the south the Struth mountain range ( 561  m ), north of the Barmberg (554 m) and west of the Bolzenberg. The road from Haiger to Dietzhölztal runs through Weidelbach . There is a bus connection to Haiger and Dillenburg .

history

The place has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age. The first documentary mention took place on January 19, 1281. The name was probably given after the willow trees of the local stream. Weidelbach developed as a typical Haubergsdorf . The Reformation arrived here in the 16th century. Politically, the place belonged to the princely and later duchy of Nassau . Since the beginning of the 20th century, the garden furniture industry has flourished as the most important economic branch alongside traditional agriculture.

Territorial reform

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipality of Weidelbach was incorporated into the city of Haiger on January 1, 1977 through the law on the reorganization of the Dill district, the districts of Gießen and Wetzlar and the city of Gießen . A local district was not established for Weidelbach.

As of December 31, 2013, 677 of the 710 residents had their main residence in Weidelbach. 675 had German citizenship. The gender ratio is divided into 368 male and 342 female residents. The inhabitants are predominantly Protestant.

Culture and sights

Regular events

Hauberg is made annually in Weidelbach . As in the other villages in the Roßbachtal, there is a Haubergsgenossenschaft. The legal basis of the Haubergs work goes back to the "Haubergordnung for the Dillkreis and the Oberwesterwaldkreis of June 4, 1887". It says: "Hauberge within the meaning of this law are the properties in the districts of Dillbrecht , Fellerdilln , Ober - and Niederroßbach , Bergebersbach , Eibelshausen , Almonds , Offdilln , Rittershausen , Steinbrücken , Straßebersbach, Weidelbach and Korb , which currently belong to the Hauberg associations."

The Protestant church was built in 1817 after the old chapel in the center of the village had to be demolished due to its dilapidation. The half-timbered building is almost square in terms of its base. The weather side is slated, the rest of the building is plastered. On the hip roof is centered a roof turret , in which the bell is housed. In the course of the last renovation in 1993, the old quarry stone base was exposed and correspondingly supplemented on the street side. During this renovation, the interior of the church was returned to its original historical color. Particularly noteworthy are the ornate pulpit crown, the altar and the numerous paintings on the gallery and chancel parapet: floral decorations, the four evangelists as well as the depiction of Christ and the baptism of Christ. In two large stucco circles on the ceiling and in the haunch are on the pulpit wall and side walls of each angel images. Since the renovation in 1993, the new organ from Förster & Nicolaus from Lich, Hessen, with 5 manual registers and one pedal register has stood on the front gallery .

Economic structure

Small and medium-sized businesses dominate the town. In addition to agriculture and garden furniture manufacturers, construction companies (Gerhardt and Weigel GmbH), metal goods manufacturers, craft businesses and shops are represented.

There is a VdK local group and a kindergarten for the Protestant community.
