Allendorf ( Haiger in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse .
) is a district ofGeographical location
Allendorf is about two kilometers west of the core town of Haiger. The forest surrounding the district is characteristic of Allendorf. The Haigerbach , a right tributary of the Dill , flows through the village, the discharge of which rises sharply , especially when the snow melts , and quickly leads to small floods. In the past the Wupper also flowed through the village, today it only flows through the place underground. With the exception of the west side, Allendorf is surrounded by mountains.
history
Allendorf was first mentioned in a document on March 12, 1362 and has always been on one of the most important trade routes in Germany (Frankfurt – Siegen – Cologne). Due to its geographical location about 300 meters below the Kalteiche, the place became a so-called relay station for mail and haulage. A large number of restaurants developed from this situation. But not only through traffic shaped the community, agriculture also had a great influence on the history of the district.
Due to the industrialization in the late 19th century, small craft businesses and industrial companies settled here. At that time, the majority of the inhabitants worked in coal mines, whose jobs extended as far as the Siegerland.
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Allendorf was incorporated into the city of Haiger on January 1, 1977 by means of state law . A local district was not established for Allendorf.

Culture and sights
societies
The life of the Allendorfer is characterized by a lively club life. Most of the original Allendorf residents are involved in one of the numerous associations. There is the Allendorf volunteer fire brigade , a men's choir, a mixed church community choir, a sports club, a nature conservation club, tractor enthusiasts, a motorsport club, a tennis club, a fishing club and a pigeon breeding club.
Buildings
Culinary
The baking of round New Year's slices (called “Naujohrn” in the Allendorf dialect) is worth mentioning. These are traditionally baked between Christmas and New Years and usually consist of rye flour, salt, pepper, dried cloves and water, although other types of dough can also be used. The dough is baked in special irons over an open fire. In this context, the fishnes are a specialty . With them, the dough is filled with cured meat.
Economy and Infrastructure
Several small and medium-sized companies have settled in Allendorf in recent years. These include a construction company, a car dealership, several small craft and service businesses and restaurants. At the nearby Kalteiche ( 579.3 m above sea level ), whose houses have always belonged to Allendorf, there is also a gas station, a large forwarding company ( Schenker AG ), a truck stop and a garage due to the proximity to the motorway in the industrial area "Herrenrain" Scania agency. The “Haiger-Kalteiche” commercial and industrial area, which was developed a few years ago, is part of the Haigerseelbach district .
Agriculture was a defining feature of Allendorf in the past. But even today, despite major changes, some cattle, sheep and horse keepers are still represented in the village and, as a sideline, ensure that in Allendorf, as only in a few places in the old Dill district, large areas are still used for agriculture.
