The San Gabán II hydropower plant (Spanish: Central Hidroeléctrica San Gabán II ) is located in the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera in southeastern Peru , 165 km east of the city of Cusco . The power plant is located in the Carabaya province of the Puno administrative region . The plant, which was built between 1996 and 2000, is operated by Empresa de Generación Eléctrica San Gabán SA
On the Río San Gabán , a left tributary of the Río Inambari , there is a weir ( ⊙ ) near the settlement of Uruhuasi . Part of the river water is drained there. This first arrives in four 61.7 m long sedimentation basins . The water then enters an equalization basin with a capacity of 140,000 m³. From this a 7270 m long pressure line leads (diameter: 3.6 m) to a surge tank and a 738 m long pressure tunnel (60 ° slope; diameter: 3.35 m) for underground power station . This has two vertically directed Pelton turbines (5 nozzles, speed: 514.3 / min) with an output of 55 MW each. The gross drop height is 679 m, the net drop height 644 m, the (total) design flow 19 m³ / s. The average annual energy production is 715 GWh. The underground power station can be reached via a 545 m long access tunnel ( ⊙ ), which branches off the highway not far from the Casahuiri settlement . The machine house has a length of 51 m, a width of 18.6 m and a height of 29.8 m. A 1000 m long drainage tunnel below the power plant leads the water back to the river.
Lenders for the project were the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) with 130 million US dollars and the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) , a development bank focused on promoting the Andean Pact countries, with 25 million US dollars.
