Architecture and history

The building consisted of two combined plastered half-timbered buildings that were built around the year 1700. The access to the eastern part, house number 15, is below street level. The entrance to the western part of the building, house number 16, is on the ground floor. Parts of the pine wood used for the eight rafters came from around 1527. The cellar vault and the historical retaining wall construction in the basement are also classified as worthy of protection today.

Changes took place around 1800, during which time the buildings were also plastered.

In 2010, the building owner at that time, the architect Horst Danscher, submitted an application for the demolition of number 15. From this time there was a sign that was on the house until the demolition and announced the replacement of the building by a new building. However, the demolition application was initially rejected by the state administration office of Saxony-Anhalt and this rejection was confirmed by the administrative court. Ultimately, however, the architect could prevail, since the monument value was ultimately only assigned to certain parts of the building. With reference to the Monument Protection Act, with the provided evidence of a non-economic renovation possibility, the architect was able to make an almost complete demolition possible, which was implemented in March 2017. Only the cellar vault and the retaining wall should be preserved. A new building has been announced.

The garden of the houses is at the rear and runs down along the slope towards the Mühlgraben .
