Vasily Iossifowitsch Stalin ( Russian Василий Иосифович Сталин ; born March 24, 1921 in Moscow , † March 19, 1962 in Kazan ) was a Soviet general and the youngest son of Josef Stalin .

Life

Vasily Stalin came from the marriage of Josef Stalin with his second wife Nadezhda Alliluyeva . During the Second World War he made a career as a captain in the 23rd Fighter Pilot Group in Moscow and became a successful pilot . Apart from a mention about the award of the Order of the Red Banner , he - like all children of Stalin - was hardly mentioned in public. 1945–1947 Wassili was stationed in Falkensee near Berlin as the commander of a Soviet aviation division . In 1948 he was promoted to commander of the air force in the Moscow military district as a lieutenant general and has since led the air parades on national holidays.

Vasily Stalin was said to have a dissolute lifestyle, poor company and alcoholism by his sister Svetlana . In addition, he was arrogant and uncontrolled, only held in his position by his father. In April 1951 he was elected to the Moscow Committee of the CPSU .

On May 1, 1952, although it was forbidden, he had a squadron fly over Red Square and was personally deposed as commander by Stalin and sent to a General Staff Academy, which he never attended.

In his shock at his father's death the following year, Vasily believed that Stalin had been murdered. He lost his position in the Air Force , was arrested on April 28, 1953 and sentenced to eight years imprisonment. Subsequently, he was imprisoned in the Vladimirovka prison camp in Vladimir until 1960 and repeatedly in sanatoriums and asylums. After his return to Moscow, he is said to have attracted attention again for debauchery and alcoholism, then tried a cure in the Caucasus and finally moved to Kazan, where he died on March 19, 1962.

Vasily Stalin was married four times. His first wife from 1940 to 1944 was Galina Burdonskaja (1921–1990), with whom he had a son ( Alexander Burdonsky (1941–2017), theater director, people 's artist of Russia 1996) and a daughter Nadezhda (1943–1999). From 1946 to 1949 he was married to Yekaterina Tymoshenko (1923–1988), daughter of Marshal Semyon Tymoshenko . From this marriage a son Vasily (1949–1972) and a daughter Svetlana (1952–1989) were born. Vasily Stalin's third wife was the swimmer Kapitolina Wassiljewa (1918 or 1923-2009) from 1949–1953 , with whom he had no children together. But he adopted her daughter Lina (* 1942) from her first marriage. Shortly before his death, Wassili Stalin married Marija Nusberg (Schewargina, 1930–2002) in 1962.

In November 2002 his body was transferred to the Trojekurowo cemetery in Moscow.
