The Watts Needle is a 1450 m high rock needle in the East Antarctic Coatsland . In the Read Mountains of the Shackleton Range , it looms at the southwest end of a ridge east of the Glen Glacier .
Aerial photographs were taken in 1967 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1972 after the British geologist William Whitehead Watts (1860-1947).
