Paved mudflat path (Låningsvej) to the island of Mandø.

A Wattweg (also Wattenweg , Danish : Ebbevej ) is a secured and marked connection through the Watt that can be walked or driven on at low tide . It either connects the mainland with mostly smaller islands or Halligen with each other. A mudflat path is subject to the constant changes in the mudflats caused by the tides . It must therefore be monitored and, if necessary, attached or even relocated. A mudflat path should never be used alone or in ignorance of the tides and localities.

The most famous German mudflat trail connects Duhnen and Sahlenburg near Cuxhaven with the island of Neuwerk . The Halligen Süderoog and Südfall can only be reached via mudflat trails. In Denmark there are Ebbevejs (mudflat trails) to the islands of Mandø and Langli, among others . Although the tides on the Baltic Sea islands Æbelø and Svelmø are only weakly noticeable, mud flats also lead to them.

Lindisfarne (Holy Island) on the North Sea coast of England can be reached via a tide-dependent paved road on the seabed.

The French island Île de Noirmoutier can also be reached via the Passage du Gois depending on the tide.
