The Weatherford International plc is an international manufacturer of equipment for the oil and natural gas production with roots in the United States . The legal seat is in Dublin , Ireland , the operational headquarters in Baar, Switzerland .

The company was founded in 1948 under the name Weatherford Oil Tool Company in Weatherford , Texas . In 2008, the group decided to unify its headquarters and legal seat and to relocate them from Houston and Bermuda to Switzerland. The relocation to Zug and the move to office space in Geneva were completed on February 26, 2009 or during the first quarter of 2009. Associated with this was a conversion into a stock corporation under Swiss law .

In 2010 Weatherford International is active in over 100 countries and at more than 1,000 oil and gas wells and employs approximately 53,000 people, four of whom are in Geneva. In 2009 the company had sales of $ 8.8 billion and profits of $ 254 million. The shares of Weatherford International are listed on the New York Stock Exchange and on the NYSE Euro Next Paris listed and were up on 25 February 2009 at the stock index S & P 500 represented were, but later resumed. On November 17, 2010 Weatherford was also listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and traded there for the first time. The share was included in the Swiss Performance Index (SPI) .

In April 2014, Weatherford announced that it would be delisted on the Swiss and Paris stock exchanges during the course of the year and that its headquarters would be relocated from Switzerland to Ireland. The entry in the commercial register took place on June 17, 2014 and the delisting on the SIX Swiss Exchange two days later. Weatherford International has not been listed on Euronext Paris since June 11, 2014. Since then, Weatherford has been a public company incorporated under Irish law and traded exclusively on the New York Stock Exchange . Weatherford will keep the tax seat and the operational headquarters in Switzerland.
