action

Little Kati and her single mother Anna are behind with their rent. In order to collect the necessary money, they give a concert at a Christmas market disguised as angels - Kati plays the recorder, Anna the violin. At the market they meet a talking dog named Willy Wuff. Kati, who is the only one who understands him, promptly takes him home. Because Anna cannot raise enough money for the rent even after the concert, the landlord threatens her again. When Willy Wuff jumps on him and bites him in the leg, Anna and her daughter are thrown out the door one day before Christmas Eve. However, Willy Wuff is determined to help them. He is accommodating her in a villa whose owner is currently away and has hidden the house key in a flower pot.

Jakob, the millionaire owner of the villa, is meanwhile enjoying himself in a hotel room with his newest flame, Rita. Impressed by Jacob's generosity, Rita had recently left Jacob's best friend Fritz. When she tells Jakob that she must always remember how rich he is, Jakob loses the desire to share the bed with her. He returns to his villa and has to find that his key is no longer in the flower pot. With the help of a garden tool, he can still get into the villa. Kati and Anna think he is a burglar, but invite him to have dinner together and spend the night with them. Since Jakob has had enough of being liked only for his money, he does not tell them that he is the owner of the villa.

In the meantime, Rita has settled down with Fritz again. Because this back and forth gets on his nerves, Fritz wants to pay his friend Jakob a visit the next morning and give him his opinion. Enthusiastic about Anna's charm, Fritz pretends to be the owner of the villa. To find out whether he can win Anna's heart even without money, Jakob gets involved and chauffeurs Fritz, Anna and Kati into town to go shopping. There Jakob meets Rita. To prevent Rita from revealing his true identity to Anna, he pulls her into a jewelry store and buys her an expensive ring. However, Anna sees Rita giving Jakob a kiss in thanks. Anna in turn kisses Fritz, whereupon Rita begins to understand the situation through Jacob's sad expression on his face.

Back at the villa, Fritz and Anna decorate the Christmas tree. Anna Jakob watches dreamily through the window as he and Kati build a snowman in the garden. When she falls off a ladder into Fritz's arms and they kiss again, Anna abruptly breaks off the kiss. When she later sees Jacob hugging Rita, however, she decides to leave the villa with Kati. Rita, who understands Jakob's affection for Anna, is reconciled with Fritz. After Anna and Kati, Rita and Fritz also leave the villa, so that Jakob remains there alone. Only Willy Wuff keeps him company. A rabbit named Ludwig Spoon finally delivers a message from Kati to Willy Wuff. Willy Wuff then leads Jakob to the “Home of the Franciscans ”, where Kati and Anna get something warm to eat and then make music. When Jakob finds them there, he spontaneously starts singing. He drives her back to his villa, where Anna puts her daughter to bed. Anna and Jakob finally get closer in front of the fireplace in the living room. They kiss and suddenly hear a yelp. In Kati's bedroom they find Willy Wuff and Ludwig Spoon singing a lullaby for Kati.
