Weimar Spring Days for Contemporary Music

The Weimar Spring Days for Contemporary Music are a festival for new music . They were founded in 2000 and take place every year in Weimar . The association has been organizing the festival via nova , which is also the sponsoring association of the German Composers' Association of Thuringia, since 2007 . He acts as the Thuringian section of the Society for New Music and is a member of the State Music Council of Thuringia. The composer Johannes K. Hildebrandt acts as chairman . The composer Karl Dietrich was appointed honorary chairman .

The event is linked to a composition competition for orchestra and chamber music, which is intended to support young composers with prize money of 6,000 euros. Previous winners include a. Graham Waterhouse (2000), Jan Kopp (2002), Susanne Stelzenbach (2006), Caspar de Gelmini (2007) and Péter Kőszeghy (2008).

The composers whose pieces have premiered in the past include: Günter Neubert , Peter Helmut Lang , Helmut Oehring , Helmut Zapf , Juliane Klein , Iraida Yusupova , Annette Schlünz , Lothar Voigtländer , Gwyn Pritchard , Karl Heinz Wahren , Hubert Hoche and Thomas Nathan Kruger .
