Gwyn Pritchard

Gwyn Charles Pritchard (born January 29, 1948 in Richmond, Yorkshire ) is a British cellist , conductor and composer .

Life

From 1966 to 1969, Pritchard studied cello with Joan Dickson and composition with Frank Spedding at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow. From 1969 to 1970 he was music director at Salisbury Cathedral School . He later worked as a cellist for the BBC . In 1979 he took part in the Warsaw Autumn and was next to Witold Lutosławski composer at the Southampton International New Music Week . In 1981 he founded the Uroboros Ensemble , of which he is the conductor and artistic director. In 2003 he founded the Reggello International Festival of Contemporary & Classical Music in Italy. In 2004 he composed for the ISCM World Music Days in Basel . In 2006 he appeared at the Weimar Spring Festival for contemporary music . In 2008 he was one of the few composers who were played in Florence on the hundredth birthday of Elliott Carter . His work The Firmament of Time was performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2009 . Currently (as of 2009) he is working with the Italian cellist Giovanni Ricciardi , the Dutch Ensemble Orkest de Ereprijs and the German Ensemble Sortisatio . In addition, his music was heard around the world, including the USA, China and Australia. As a guest lecturer he taught a. a. at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Music Academy of the City of Basel , Eastman School of Music in Rochester and the Birmingham Conservatoire . Pritchard is currently Professor of Composition at Trinity College of Music in London . He is married and has two daughters u. a. the composer Alwynne Pritchard (* 1968).
