Halbturn Castle

history

The winery in the area of Baroque - Halbturn Palace is owned by the families of Mark and Max Koenigsegg-Aulendorf and Dieter Hoffmann-Unzog. The cradle of the winery was in Jois am Jungsberg. There the Counts Poth established the first vineyards of the Hungarian Altenburg estate in 1214 by purchasing 14 curiae.

The Schloss Halbturn winery was reorganized in 2001 at great financial expense and converted to modern quality wine production. A large part of the vines was replanted and the historic terraces on the Jungsberg were planted again. An international team was supposed to increase the wine quality by means of rigorous yield reduction, hand-picking in small boxes and repeated grape selection.

The winery

The vineyard area is 54 hectares (as of 2011), 95 percent of which are planted with the red grape varieties Pinot Noir , Sankt Laurent , Zweigelt , Blaufränkisch , Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Cabernet Franc . The white varieties include Chardonnay , Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc . The most famous wines are the red wine blends Jungsberg and Imperial as well as Pinot Noir and St. Laurent.

The range is offered in a clearly defined product portfolio: "Königsegg" stands on the one hand for the classic line developed in stainless steel and as a premium level for those wines that have been trained in used barriques or in large wooden barrels. The premium cuvées in red and white operate under the “Impérial” label and the “Schloss wines” represent the absolute top of the range. A hallmark of the castle winery is the very late launch of the wines.

There is a rarity cellar in the winery, which contains grape juices from the Schloss-Weine and Impérial red product lines. There are currently three to five vintages in stock for each wine (as of 2011). In the medium term, the range of rarities is to be significantly expanded. Up to ten vintages are to be made available of special wreaths in the future.
