history

In 1912 Gutehoffnungshütte bought a lime pit in the south of Nierstein, along with the neighboring vineyards. The lime was needed for iron production in the Ruhr area . After the First World War there was no longer any need for lime, so the decision was made to cultivate the surrounding vineyards. The first wine was produced in 1920 . The wines of the "Gutehoffnungshütte" winery were drunk exclusively within the group and given away to customers and sold. The lime pit was sold in 1955 and the proceeds invested in the winery and its winery. In the course of this, vineyards in the famous Niersteiner locations were bought.

In the eighties the group was restructured and operated under the name MAN . The winery was also given a new name, St. Antony after the St. Antony hut , the first ironworks in Oberhausen .

The responsibility for the winery lay with the company's board of directors , and the winery earned a place among the hundred best in Germany.

In 2005 the winery was sold to Detlev Meyer. The long-established Niersteiner Weingut Heyl zu Herrnsheim is also part of his property, it was officially dissolved in 2008 and now exists as a brand of St. Antony Weingut GmbH & Co. KG.
