The property at Weinstrasse 3 in the small town of Deidesheim in the Palatinate is an old winery with a representative villa and a complex of farm buildings . It is located on the German Wine Route and is a cultural monument worthy of protection under the State of Rhineland-Palatinate's Monument Protection Act .

history

The history of the Gießen family, who had the property built and who still own it today, dates back to 1391. The Gießens were cloth merchants in Holland and were given a coat of arms from Emperor Wenzel of Luxembourg showing a cloth card . This was later shown on the winery's wine label . In 1730 members of the family moved to Kirchheimbolanden in what is now the Palatinate . Johannes Gießen, born in Kirchheimbolanden, married the daughter of the prince-bishop's office , Anna Eva, in 1766 and settled in Deidesheim. The family provided some mayors in Deidesheim in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1885 the family bought the neighboring property, today Weinstrasse 1 (until 2015 the seat of RHM Klinik- und Altenheimbetriebe BV & Co. KG ), and had the property built next door as an Aussiedlerhof . The builder was Andreas Gießen, the construction period extended from 1886 to 1889. The property then passed to his son Herbert Gießen (1877–1945), then to his son Erich Gießen (1919–2005). After the Second World War, from 1945 to 1952, the property was requisitioned by French troops and served as barracks for around 60 men. The property suffered considerable damage during this period. Herbert Gießen, Erich Gießen's son, has been running the estate since 1982.

It is a two-storey building made of bricks , which is structured with sandstones . The building with a hipped roof provided, has a striking Belvedere turret and has to Weinstrasse towards a gable and a small walk-stem on. The property also includes the farm building next door, built in 1886, with a wine press house , coach house and barn. Its slate roof turret was equipped with a water tank, which served to supply the villa.
