Location of the Welfen barracks in Baden-Württemberg

The Welfen barracks in Weingarten ( Baden-Wuerttemberg ) was a property of the German armed forces and the seat of the international remote surveillance school . On June 2, 1997 the school moved to Pfullendorf, 30 kilometers northwest, and is now the Special Operations Training Center . There was also the Argonne barracks in Weingarten .

location

The barracks was northeast of the center of Weingarten. The troops of the two Weingartener barracks used the training area Ness vines about a kilometer southeast of the barracks. At Neuhaselhaus one and a half kilometers to the east, a shooting range was to be built.

designation

history

The barracks were initially used by the French armed forces in Germany . In 1956 the 5e régiment de hussards moved in from Fritzlar . At this time the barracks was named Quartier Gallifet after Général Gaston de Gallifet , prince de Martigues (1830-1909), Minister of War in the Waldeck-Rousseau government 1899-1900 during the Dreyfus affair. After the regiment was relocated to Stetten am kalten Markt and the French withdrew, the barracks were handed over to the Bundeswehr. On July 12, 1979, the International Fernspähschule was founded in Neuhausen ob Eck and relocated to Weingarten on May 1, 1980. On June 2, 1997, the military use of the barracks ended when the school was relocated to Pfullendorf . Some of the buildings, some of which are listed , were given residential use, another part is used by the Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences .
