Welfensberg is a church village in the political municipality of Wuppenau in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland . The village on the northern slope of the Nollens belonged to the local community of Wuppenau from 1803 to 1971 .

history

St. Laurentius Church, built in 1706 to replace a small chapel. 1925–1927 the tower was raised and collapsed on July 25, 1929.

The parish , first mentioned in 1275 as Wælphrisperch , which included Welfensberg and Leuberg, was probably donated by the nobles of Leuberg as a separate church . Later, the monastery of St. Gallen acquired the collature that was given to the barons of Anwil in 1420 and, soon after 1499, to that of Helmsdorf. In 1534, the St. Gallen monastery bought back the fief . Until 1798 the village belonged to the Thurlinden free court . In 1805 the collature came to the Thurgau administrative council, in 1831 to the municipality.

In 1529 Welfensberg accepted the Reformation , but returned to the Catholic faith in 1531. From 1534 Welfensberg was looked after by the chaplain from Wil SG until it was able to employ a pastor in 1735 thanks to a foundation. From 1706 to 1708 the church of St. Laurentius was built. In 1869 the village refused to merge with Wuppenau. In 1871 the Catholics of Hosenruck were assigned to Welfensberg . The Reformed were parishes after Bussnang , but attended the sermon in Neukirch an der Thur until 1703 . In 1712 they were assigned to Schönholzerswilen . After a renovation and an increase in the church tower, it collapsed in 1929.

In Welfensberg, fields, meadows and fruit were grown, dairy farming in the late 19th century and embroidery around 1900.
