history

The Welschbacher Bann shows numerous traces of Celtic and Roman settlements. The name Welschbach, which appeared in the Turkish treasury of 1542 as "Walsbach", suggests that the place existed as a Franconian settlement after the fall of Roman rule. The place Welschbach was originally a farmers and miners' village.

The municipality of Welschbach, which was independent until 1973, was part of the Schiffweiler district . Welschbach has been part of the Illingen community since January 1st, 1974. In the Illingen 2030 project, the main theme of the “Rosendorf” development was worked out.

Partnerships

Welschbach has had a partnership with today's Erfurt district and the former independent municipality of Schwerborn since 1990 . The Welschbach volunteer fire brigade maintains a partnership with the Franconian community of Wattenbach.

Former municipal coat of arms

The Welschbach coat of arms was created in 1962. The local council decided for the coat of arms: “Shield head three golden shingles in blue, shield undivided. In the middle, blue ears of wheat in gold arranged in stakes, covered with two black, crossed miner's picks. ”The shingles indicate that the municipality of Welschbach used to belong to the county of Nassau-Saarbrücken . Ear and pick were the main sources of income for the municipality at that time, namely agriculture and mining.

Infrastructure

There is the Welschbachhalle and the now closed elementary school at public institutions. The DRK and volunteer fire brigades are based in this area . The school yard serves as a fairground.

The sports field and the Rechwies industrial area are located at the exit of the village towards Stennweiler.

The rose garden is elevated with a view of the Ill valley next to the “Im Roth” recreation area with a refuge and dog training area.

The adventure trail “After the Shift” has been a reminder of the mining history of Welschbach since 2017. It illustrates the everyday life of the fictional Penth miners on a good 8 km long route through and around Welschbach.

Two playgrounds, the rifle house and a goat breeding facility supported by the Naturland Foundation on the site of the former gravel pit on the Hexenberg complete the leisure offer.
