Christian Petry (born March 15, 1965 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag for the constituency of 298 St. Wendel since January 2014 . In the German Bundestag Christian Petry is the European policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the committee for the affairs of the European Union . In addition, Christian Petry has been General Secretary of the Saar SPD since March 2018 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Ottweiler in 1984 , he studied administrative sciences and economics and business administration with a degree in administrative management (FH). From 1992 to 1995 he was a research assistant in the Saarland SPD parliamentary group under Reinhard Klektiven and from 1995 to 1998 personal advisor and press spokesman for the Saarland interior minister Friedel Läpple ; then until 1999 press spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group in the Saarland state parliament. Later he worked as a consultant in the field of citizenship, civil status and foundation law in the Saarland Ministry of the Interior.

Christian Petry since 2002, Regional Executive of the Saar SPD and since 2007 member of the board at the Department of Federal and state governments in ver.di . In the federal election 2013 he ran in the constituency of St. Wendel and was defeated by Nadine Schön (CDU). In January 2014, he moved into the German Bundestag as a replacement for Reinhold Jost . In the 2017 Bundestag election , he moved into the Bundestag again at number 3 on the list.

In the 18th German Bundestag Christian Petry was the deputy spokesman for European policy for the SPD parliamentary group and a full member of the Committee on European Union Affairs, the Finance Committee and the Parliamentary Financial Market Committee.

In the 19th German Bundestag Christian Petry is the European policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group as well as a full member of the Committee for European Union Affairs and a deputy member of the Budget Committee . He is also a full member of the Franco-German Working Group on the Élysée Treaty and the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Policy Coordination and Governance in the EU. Petry has been a member of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly and the Committee on Cross-Border Cooperation in accordance with Article 14 of the Treaty of Aachen since 2019 and a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2020 .

Social Commitment

Christian Petry is President of the THW Landeshelfervereinigung Saarland eV, member of the board of trustees in the Technical Aid Foundation (THW) , member of the assembly of curators in the Institute for European Politics (IEP) and Vice President of the European Movement Germany eV , the largest network for European politics in Germany. Christian Petry has been active in local politics since 1989 as a member of the Illingen municipal council and as a member of the local council and since 1999 as the mayor of Welschbach .

Christian Petry is also a member a. a. in ver.di , DRK , AWO , Sozialverband VdK Deutschland e. V. , Lebenshilfe Neunkirchen, the German-Polish Circle of Friends Illingen and in the European Union Germany .
