World records in speed skiing
The world records in speed skiing are the highest speeds achieved in this sport. The International Ski Federation (FIS) does not keep any official record lists, but the records are recognized by some national associations. The world records are divided into different classes and are kept separately for men and women. The fastest class with the fewest regulations is called Kilomètre Lancé (KL) or Speed One (SO). There is also the production or downhill class, in which, according to the rules set by the FIS, it is only allowed to drive with series downhill skis and series racing suits. There are very few routes in the world that are steep enough to set a world record. In addition to the right route, optimal weather and snow conditions are also necessary to achieve a new world record.
