Welykyj Bukryn ( Ukrainian Великий Букрин ; Russian Великий Букрин Veliki Bukrin ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kiev with about 100 inhabitants (2001).
The village, founded in 1600, belongs administratively to the 39.3 km² district council municipality Malyj Bukryn ( Малий Букрин ) in the north of Myroniwka Rajon .
The village is located on the border with Cherkasy Oblast on a peninsula in the Dnepr , which is dammed up to the Kaniv reservoir , 5 km north of the Maly Bukryn community center, about 50 km northeast of the Myronivka district center and about 120 km south of the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
At Velykyj Bukryn the troops of the Voronezh Front built the contested Bukrin bridgehead on the right Dneprufer in autumn 1943 during the Battle of the Dnieper. In the neighboring village of Balyko-Shchuchynka there is the “National Museum-Memorial Bukrin Bridgehead ” ( Національний музей-меморіальний комплекс «Букринський плацда ) to commemorate the fighting .
