Wemyss Bay is a village in the Scottish Unitary Authority Inverclyde . In 2011 there were 2592 inhabitants in Wemyss Bay.
geography
The village lies on the south-western border of Inverclyde and North Ayrshire . It is about 13 kilometers southwest of Greenock and 50 kilometers west of Glasgow on the south bank of the Firth of Clyde opposite the Cowal Peninsula . The Kelly Burn stream , which forms the border between Inverclyde and North Ayrshire, touches the city in the south.

Wemyss Bay is on the A78 which runs along the coast from the A8 at Greenock to Prestwick in the south. In 1865 the village was connected to the railway network with its own train station. This was initially served by the Greenock and Wemyss Bay Railway of the Caledonian Railway and was the terminus of the line. Today Wemyss Bay is the terminus of the Inverclyde Line .
The Wemyss Bay station, which is listed in the highest monument category A, is located directly at a ship pier. There the ferry to Rothesay docks on the island of Bute , which forms the main transport route to the island. With the Glasgow Airport is an international airport is 30 kilometers away.
