Wendelinus Chapels from Budenheim
The two Wendelinus chapels of Budenheim in the district of Mainz-Bingen in Rhineland-Palatinate are located in the Lennebergwald directly on the city border with Mainz-Gonsenheim . The chapels are dedicated to Saint Wendelin and were completed in 1776 and 1866 .
They are the destination of the Budenheim Wendelinus pilgrimage on the third Sunday in October . The Wendelinusheim is located in the immediate vicinity of the two chapels, but already in the Mainz area .

The smaller and older of the two Wendelinus chapels was built in 1776. A chapel, which was also dedicated to Saint Wendelin, had previously been located in the same place. It is said to have been donated by the Budenheim population because of a foot-and-mouth disease raging among their cattle , because the saint is considered the patron saint of shepherds and farmers .
The older Wendelinus Chapel is a small hipped roof building that was built in the late baroque style. The year 1814 is carved over the entrance of the chapel, which does not refer to the year of construction , but to a renovation .
The newer from 1866
The newer and larger of the two Wendelinus chapels was built diagonally across from the older chapel on behalf of the Budenheim citizens from 1862 and was completed in 1866. The quarry stone building is in neo-Gothic style and was probably crowned with a roof turret after 1880 .
Wendelinusheim
The Wendelinusheim is located in the immediate vicinity of the two chapels, but already in the Mainz area . The house is owned by the Catholic youth organization and is used by children in need of relaxation.
The building was originally built around 1840 as the forester's house "Ludwigshöhe" elsewhere in the Lenneberg Forest. From around 1880 drinks were allowed here, and it developed into a popular excursion restaurant. In 1913 Baron Martin Wilhelm von Waldthausen (1875–1928) acquired the forester's house and the surrounding forest in order to better shield his Waldthausen Castle from the outside world. The baron had the forester's house torn down and rebuilt next to the two Wendelinus chapels. Since 1930 the house has belonged to the Catholic youth organization of the diocese of Mainz . Due to fire protection deficiencies, the Wendelinusheim was shut down in 2015. Since the house has a significant renovation backlog, the removal of which cannot be financed by the owner, the house is to be sold in 2017.
