Wenceslas hedge

Wenzel Hecke (born February 20, 1824 in Reichenberg , Bohemia , † April 27, 1900 in Vienna ) was an Austrian agricultural scientist . From 1872 he taught as a professor for agricultural management at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna .

Live and act

After working as a farmer for several years, Wenzel Hecke studied from 1850 at the Higher Agricultural College in Hungarian-Altenburg . In 1854 he was employed as a lecturer there , and in 1857 he was given the title of professor. Initially he was responsible for the fields of crop production and forestry , from 1864 he was responsible for agricultural management. From 1872 to 1895 he worked as a full professor for agricultural management at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna .

Hecke gained recognition in the professional world primarily through several stimulating publications in the fields of crop production and agricultural management. His work “ The fluctuations in the gross and net yield of individual estates ” , published in 1877, deserves special mention . In 1879, one year after the death of his friend and colleague Friedrich Haberlandt , he published his completed textbook manuscript “The general agricultural crop production” . He published numerous articles in compilations, in the "Wiener Landwirthschaftliche Zeitung" and in the "Österreichisches Landwirthschaftliche Wochenblatt".
