Werner Amend (born July 1953 in Goddelau ) is a German politician without a party who was mayor of the city of Riedstadt from 2011 to 2017 .

Life

After completing high school and military service , Amend studied business administration in Frankfurt am Main . He then worked for several companies in the Rhine-Main area , including ten years for HEAG .

Amend had been a member of the SPD since 1979 . For his party he sat for several decades in the Riedstadt city council and during this time he held the office of city council chairman for 14 years. In the course of the attempted formation of a red-green minority government by Andrea Ypsilanti and the intra-party dealings with their critics Jürgen Walter , Carmen Everts , Silke Tesch and Dagmar Metzger , Amend left the party at the end of 2010.

At the beginning of 2011 he ran for the office of mayor of Riedstadt as a non-party member. After no candidate was able to achieve a majority in the election on January 9, Amend prevailed on January 23 in a runoff election with 53.9% against the candidate of his previous party, Patrick Fiederer. In 2010 he was still inferior to Fiederer in the internal SPD decision about who should become the Social Democrats' candidate for mayor.

In the mayoral election in 2016 on November 6th, he achieved third place with 24.6%. and thus did not move into the runoff election on November 27th. At the same, Marcus Kretschmann ( CDU ) was elected Amends successor. He replaced Amend on April 4, 2017 in the mayor's office.

Amend is married and has two sons.
